FAQs

General

What are the Pros?

  • Perfect for back road gravel travelling, where a second spare tyre is generally required.
  • It is self-installing and removable between trips.
  • Transferrable between vehicles with the same bolt pattern.
  • No new expensive bumper required.
  • Won't affect warranty on your factory-fitted bumper.
  • It's lighter than a metal bumper and wheel carrier combo conversion.
  • Patented calming locking wedge. No vibrations.
  • wheel swings out to right of vehicle.
  • the bolted wheel on the carrier is 10 degrees off vertical.

What are the Cons?

Your spare carrier nuts may not match the wheel nut. This applies to all vehicles that are not a Ford Ranger T6. However, this is not really an issue because you don't need to use the carrier nuts for you wheel, simply keep them separate.

Can I fit the Universal Wheel Carrier with my Nissan Navaras?

Yes, but there is one consideration:
Because the Nissan Navaras have M12 x 1.25 studs and our wheel carrier has M12 x 1.5 studs and nuts, our nuts provided can only be used on the spare wheel carrier, not the actual vehicle’s wheel hubs.

This applies to all vehicles that are not a Ford Ranger T6. However, this is not really an issue because you don't need to use the carrier nuts for you wheel, simply keep them separate.

Universal Wheel Carrier

What does Uni. WC mean?

Universal Spare Wheel Carrier

What are the spacer requirements for a Uni. WC – depending on vehicle or bumper type?

  • Use a straight edge (wood, alu, steel etc), cut to a “L” shape 760x600mm, to make a jig and hold/clamp it to the tow ball plate to see how the std vehicle bumper effects spacing between it and Jig/Uni WC - i.e. work out how much space do you need between your jig and tow ball plate
  • For most Toyota Fortuners you need a “Toyota Fortuner drill/shim plate - 4mm”, to miss the lip of the top plastic step moulding
  • Isuzu you may need a “4 hole spacer plate - 16mm
  • 2012-2022 T6 Ford rangers you will need a “6 hole spacer plate - 16mm”

What if the M16x100mm full thread high tensile bolts (10.9) are too long?

  • You can grind them shorter and spray Zinc galvanizer on tips (rattle/spray can product).
  • They are supplied long since there is generally a lot of space for long bolts. But main reason is it allows you to add spacers.
  • Pro Tip – before cutting; first thread on a nut past where you want to cut. After cutting take nut off and it will clean your threads better.

What if the M16x100mm full thread high tensile bolts (10.9) are too SHORT?

You will need to buy M16 – High Tensile bolts – grade 10.9 (at the required length)

FAQs

Spacer plates VS Tow Ball Raiser/Dropper plates

What are the similarities and differences between "Spacer Plates” and "Tow Ball Raiser/Dropper plates“?

  • Same dimensions and thickness – 16mm
  • Same hole spacings
  • Differences – the Spacer plates don’t come with counter holes and counter sunk holes. Whereas the Raiser/dropper plates does.
  • Both styles of metal plates allow you raise or drop the Tow ball, under different types of attachment.
  • Therefore you may need to drill holes for the Hex bolts when raising your tow ball with the BASIC spacer plate.  Provided you have space for a bolt head and tooling space to tighten on a tow ball/Uni. WC at the back of tow ball plate/frame
  • For Raiser/dropper plates/spacers the counter sunk holes and screws prevents drilling of your tow ball plates. This is an added benefit if you don’t have bolt head and tooling space behind you your tow ball plate to tighten the tow ball/Uni. WC on to it.
